Cabbage Stirfry / Muttaikose Poriyal

Cabbage Stirfry / Muttaikose Poriyal is a South Indian side dish recipe. This is a Dry style recipe generally served with Rasam (Pepper Water) or Puli Kulambu (Tamarind flavoured Gravy). Sometimes chopping cabbage by hand is a messy job, A very good alternate is using a food processor or a Grater. I have grated the Cabbage in the recipe below. Cabbage Poriyal / Cabbage Stir Fry is served with hot steamed rice and any strong flavored gravy like Puli Kulambu / Tamarind Gravy. Vendakkai Puli Kuzhambu / Ladys finger in Tamarind Sauce and Poondu Puli Kuzhambu / Garlic cooked in tamarind sauce are some of the Puli Kuzhambu recipes found in my space. Cabbage is filled with nutrients and fibre. This recipe is with cabbage and split moong dal, so weight watchers this recipe is for you.

Cabbage stir fry is a simple side dish to be served with rice or roti

Ingredients
  • 1 Cup Cabbage Grated
  • 1 Onion Chopped
  • 1 Green Chillies
  • 2 Tablespoon Moong Dal
  • 1 Spring Curry Leaves
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon Oil
Instructions
  1. Soak the moong dal in water for 10 minutes.

  2. Chop cabbage and onion and set aside. I have grated cabbage as i feel this is the easier way. Or it can be chopped or can be chopped in a food processor.

  3. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard and wait until it splutters. Add the soaked Moong dal and fry it for 2 minutes. and Add onion, green chilli and curry leaves and fry them until onion becomes glossy.

  4. Add the chopped cabbage and cook them. Add salt to taste. Just sprinkle a tablespoon of water if required. Do not add any more water.
