Chayote Chutney is simple and easy chutney along with idli dosa and paniyaram. In Most south Indian households idli or dosa is had as breakfast or dinner accompanied by chutney and (or) sambar. While it is had for dinner i prefer having a Chutney without coconut. This is one such chutney that i really love to have. Chayote chutney tastes great. Until someone tells it is chayote you wont be able to identify it. Here goes the recipe...

Ingredients:
Chayote/Chow Chow – 1
Ginger – 1 inch piece
Channa Dal – 3 tablespoon
Urad Dal – 1 tablespoon
Dry red Chilli – 3
Tamarind – 1 teaspoon size
Oil – 1 tablespoon
Salt to taste
For Tampering:
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Mustard- 1 teaspoon
Asafoetida – a generous pinch
Curry leaves – few
Step by Step Photos on how to make Chayote Chutney:
- Wash the chayote well. Peel the outer skin from the chayote. Remove the center portion as well . Chop them into smaller pieces. Heat oil in a Pan. Add in the channa dal, Urad Dal and dry red chillis and start frying.
- Add in the Chopped ginger pieces and keep stirring. Add in the chopped chayote and keep stirring until the raw smell leaves. Add salt to taste.
- After the ingrediets are fried well cool down completely. Add them into a blender and blend them into a paste. In another pan prepare the tampering with all the ingredients listed undet to tamper. Add the tampered mixture on top of the blended chutney. Delicious Chayote chutney is now ready to serve.
Tips:
- Addition of ginger gives a nice taste to the chutney so do not omit this
Serving Suggestion:
Chayote Chutney can be served alongside Idli and dosa. .
