Squid is often referred to as Calamari. It looks different compared to other seafood but after cleaning it becomes easy to handle. Kanava Aviyal / Coconut Squid Roast is cooking squid in Coconut Masala. Squid is a good source of protein and hence helps in a weightloss diet.

Kanava Aviyal / Coconut Squid Roast
Kanava Aviyal / Coconut Squid Roast is a south indian style roast recipe made by cooking squid/Calamari in Coconut based masala.
Servings: 3
Ingredients
- 250 grams Squid / Calamari after cleaning
- 1 tablespoon Oil
- 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
- 1 Onion
- 2 Sprig Curry Leaves
- 2 Green Chilli
- ½ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- 1 teaspoon Pepper Powder
- Salt to taste
Coconut Paste
- ¼ Cup Coconut grated
- 2 Sprig Curry Leaves
- 8 Garlic Cloves very Small
Instructions
- Clean and Chop the Calamari / Squid
- Heat Oil in a Wok. Add in Cumin and let it splutter.
- Add onion and saute until glossy. Add in Curry Leaves.
- Add in Chopped Squid Pieces and keep sauting.
- Add in Salt, Turmeric Powder and Pepper Powder. Cook until they blend well.
- Squid releases water. Cook until the water evaporates.
- Add the ingredients listed under for Coconut Paste(coconut, Curry Leaves and Garlic) into a coarse paste.
- Add it into the Squid. Cook for some time and switch off the flame.
- Delicious Kanava Aviyal / coconut Squid roast is now ready.
