Corn Wheat Porridge / CornMeal Wheat Gruel is a Healthy and filling option for breakfast or even dinner. It keeps us full and energetic for the whole day. This is a comforting dish. Corn meal has a creamy texture that gives a creamy taste to the porridge. It is considered to be a meal by itself. So this porridge can even substitute a meal during a fast. Keeps hunger pangs at bay. What I like about it is that it’s so filling and very energising making it ideal for a pick me up in the breakfast. I served with porridge with Palak Pakoda

Corn Wheat Porridge / CornMeal Wheat Gruel is a filling and healthy porridge.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 Cup CornMeal / Corn Rava / Scrambled Corn
  • 1/2 Cuo Broken Wheat / Wheat Rava
  • 1/3 Cup Split Green Gram / Moong Dal
  • Required Salt
  • 4 Cups Water
For Tampering
  • 1 Tablespoon Oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Big Onion
  • Fistful Curry Leaves
  • 1 Green Chillis
Instructions
  1. Wash and clean the ingredients. Add Wheat, Corn and Moong dal into a pressure cooker. Add Water and salt to taste. Cook in medium flame for 4 whistles. Switch off the flame and allow pressure to release on its own.

  2. Open the Pressure Cooker. If required add more water and heat it again. Heat oil in another pan. Add in jeera and allow it to splutter. Add in chopped onion.

  3. Saute the onion until glossy. Add in the curry leaves and green chillis and saute them.

  4. Add in the tampered mixture into the Porridge. Mix them gently.

  5. Delicious and creamy porridge is now ready to serve.

Recipe Notes
  • The tampering is the key step that brings in taste to the porridge so do not omit it.
  • If you wish to add garlic then they can also be added while pressure cooking.
  • While reheating do not add more water and make the porridge. Since we are going to add the tampering mixture a semi solid consistency would taste great.
  • If the porridge gets watery heat it for few mins until the water disappears.
  • Corn meal can be replaced by regular sooji as well.
  • I have used groundnut oil for tampering.
