    On a lazy Weekend when i was blank on what to do for lunch started browsing for a recipe. I landed in poondu puli kulambu. A Simple Gravy recipe for Rice. A good way to add more garlic into our food. I made few changes suitable for my taste. I served this with Egg Potato Stir Fry. This Puli Kulambu can be served with any veg stir fry recipe.     Poondu Puli Kuzhambu / Garlic Tamarind Gravy

    Poondu Puli Kuzhambu / Garlic Tamarind Gravy is a spicy and tangy gravy
    Servings: 2

    Ingredients

    • 15 Small Poondu/ Garlic Pods
    • 8 Shallots
    • 2 Teaspoon Sambar Powder
    • 1 Small Tomato
    • Curry Leaves Fistful
    • Tamarind Amla Sized
    • 1 Teaspoon Mustard
    • ½ Teaspoon Fenugreek
    • 1 Teaspoon Sambar Powder
    • salt to taste
    • Water as Required
    • 1 Tablespoon Oil

    To Saute and Paste

    • ¾ Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
    • 1 Teaspoon Coriander Seeds
    • ½ Teaspoon Pepper
    • 3 Dry Red Chillis
    • 15 Shallots
    • 2 Spring Curry Leaves
    • 1 Small Tomato
    • Salt To Taste
    • 1 Tablespoon Oil

    Notes

    • My tomato was very sour in taste. So i added only 1 small tomato.

    Step by Step Photos on how to make Poondu Puli Kuzhambu / Garlic Tamarind Gravy:

    1. Soak tamarind in water for 10 minutes. Mash them with your hands extract the pulp and discard the waste. Set it aside.
    2. Heat 1 teaspoon of oil. Add in cumin seeds, Coriander SeedsPoondu Puli Kuzhambu / Garlic Tamarind Gravy
    3. Add in Black Pepper, Dry red chillis and shallots. Poondu Puli Kuzhambu / Garlic Tamarind Gravy
    4. Add in curry leaves and salt to taste and saute for few minutes. Add in tomatoes and salt to taste and saute until the tomatoes are sauted.Poondu Puli Kuzhambu / Garlic Tamarind Gravy
    5. Switch off the flame. Cool down this mixture. Blend them into a smoothe paste.Poondu Puli Kuzhambu / Garlic Tamarind Gravy
    6. Heat oil in a wok add in mustard, cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds. Add in shallots and garlic.Poondu Puli kuzhambu
    7. Add in curry leaves. Add in salt to taste. Saute until the shallots are sauted glossy.
    8. Add in the blended paste and saute until the masala blend well with the onion. Add in Tamarind paste.Poondu Puli Kuzhambu / Garlic Tamarind Gravy
    9. Add in water and Sambar Powder. Poondu Puli Kuzhambu / Garlic Tamarind Gravy
    10. Cook until the Masalas blend well and then switch off the flame. Serve them with hot steamed rice and Cabbage Stir FryPoondu Puli Kuzhambu / Garlic Tamarind Gravy

1 tsp Cumin
½ tsp Mustard
1 Onion Chopped
1 Tomato Chopped
1.5 Tablespoon Ginger Garlic Paste
1 tsp Pepper Powder
1 tsp Chilli Powder
2 tsp Coriander Powder
1 tsp Garam Masala Powder
¼ Cup Coriander Leaves Chopped
salt to taste
