    Chettinad Valai poo Poriyal / Chettinad Banana Flower Stir Fry has a special taste and flavour. This is due to the freshly ground masala. Peanuts and Cashews gives more richness to the stir fry. Except for the extra work involved in cleaning the banana flowers it is pretty much simple to make. This Chettinad masala makes the banana flower interesting. Banana flowers are believed to cure anaemia. It helps keeping diabetics in control. Banana flowers are one of recommended vegetable for Feeding mothers.     Chettinad Valai poo Poriyal / Chettinad Banana Flower Stir Fry is a flavoural stir fry Recipe.

    Ingredients

    • 1 Banana Flower
    • 1 Big Onion Chopped
    • Fistful Curry Leaves
    • 3 Dry Red Chillis
    • Salt to taste

    To Dry Roast

    • 7 Cashews
    • 2 Tablespoon Peanuts
    • 1 Teaspoon Fennel Seeds
    • 1 inch Cinnamon Stick
    • 1 Star Anise

    Instructions

    • Open each petal of the banana flower and remove the edible flowers from them.
    • In the flowers there is a centre string like portion and an outer thick portion. These two portions do not gets cooked. Remove both of them from each flower and chop them into smaller pieces. 
    • Take all the ingredients mentioned under to roast and grind and dry roast them. Allow them to cool down. Blend them into a smooth paste.
    • Heat oil in a wok add in mustard and allow them to splutter. Add in onion and saute until glossy. Add in curry leaves and dry red chilli. Saute for a few minutes. Add in the chopped banana flowers and saute for few minutes.
    • Add in the blended paste. Cook until the masalas blend well. Switch off the flame.
    • Banana flower stir fry can be served with steamed rice and any veg gravy.

    Notes

    • Grease your hands and knife with coconut oil or some other oil before working with the banana flower, This helps in preventing the juice from the banana flowers turning the hands and knives into black color.
    • Add water while blending only if your blender does not cooperate.
